New Delhi: YouTube has officially confirmed that the complaints about users of the YouTube TV application who noticed the 90-second-long unskippable advertisements were a bug. YouTube have said that the 90-second unskippable advertisements were not under test or development and a fix has been released to the YouTube TV users. The existing policies of YouTube remain unchanged, with the only unskippable advertisement that is 30 seconds long.

The spokesperson of YouTube confirmed that, “We have established that this was a bug that has led to the display of more inaccurate timers on shorter ads, and that is the fix in progress and that this was not a test.

Users of YouTube TV applications have reported abnormally long advertisement breaks with many saying that advertisement breaks had been extended to 90 seconds when they were viewing videos on television. This is also based on the previous launching of 30-second non-skippable advertisements in the past year.

The users had a similar experience online, with screenshots, as they displayed a skip option only after 90+ seconds. YouTube is not giving a definite answer to what has transpired to confuse the users then. As the platform is now releasing a fix, it is evident that it was in fact a bug and the company was not testing the longer ad format on its TV apps.
