Farmers led by YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) leaders staged a demonstration — ‘Annadata Poru’ — against the alleged indifferent attitude of the NDA alliance government towards the farming community, in Tirupati on Tuesday. They also demanded the fulfilment of promises made to the sector ahead of the elections.

In tune with the directive of the party high command, Tirupati Mayor B.R. Sireesha Yadav, YSRCP Tirupati constituency coordinator Bhumana Abhinay Reddy and Chandragiri students’ wing leader Chevireddy Harshith Reddy led the activists and took out a procession from Annamayya Circle to the RDO’s Office, where they staged a dharna.

After submitting a representation to the officials seeking release of urea in sufficient quantities to the farmers, the leaders demanded the government to curtail black marketing of urea.

Mr. Abhinay Reddy accused the government of corruption and added that they were in no mood to listen to the plight of the farmers. He also called upon the State to provide support price to tomato and onion growers. Meanwhile, Mallam Chandramouli Reddy, president of the party’s farmers’ wing, cluster leaders, corporators and woman’s wing leaders also took part.
