The Railway Board has sanctioned ₹1 crore for the upgradation of the Cheriyanad railway station. A grade-II halt station, Cheriyanad has long suffered from inadequate passenger amenities. The amount was allotted following representations submitted by Kodikunnil Suresh, MP, to railway authorities.
The proposed works include modernisation of platforms, installation of digital display units, renovation of the station approach road, upgrading of the station building, construction of new toilets, provision of drinking water facilities, installation of signboards, additional seating arrangements on the platform and improved lighting, according to a press release on Thursday (August 28, 2025).
Tender procedures for the works are expected to begin within three months.
