191 temporary shelters readied across Cuddalore district

A total of 191 temporary relief camps have been set up across Cuddalore district, as of Wednesday, in view of forecast of heavy rainfall.

According to Collector Sibi Adhithya Senthil Kumar, 28 cyclone shelters and 14 multi-purpose shelters have also been readied to evacuate people in case of emergency. Those residing in low-lying areas were asked to temporarily shift to higher ground or the relief centres that have been set up. In addition, earthmovers, inflatable boats, tree-cutters, generators and motor pumps have also been kept ready.

The administration has identified 239 low-lying areas in Cuddalore district. He said desilting of all waterbodies under the control of the Public Works Department and local bodies had been completed and officials were keeping a continuous watch on the water level.
