Wife takes dying husband on bike, crashes, begs passersby for help in Bengaluru; public ignores plea

BENGALURU: A 34-year-old mechanic from South Bengaluru has died after a nightmarish series of events that exposed gaps in both emergency healthcare and public empathy. Venkataramanan, who lived in Balaji Nagar, began experiencing severe chest pain.

With no immediate help available, his wife took him on a motorcycle to seek medical attention. According to multiple reports, their first stop at a private hospital was met with refusal because no doctor was available. At a second hospital, an ECG indicated he had suffered a mild heart attack, but staff reportedly neither began emergency treatment nor arranged an ambulance. While travelling again on the motorcycle, the couple were involved in an accident.

CCTV footage obtained from the scene shows Venkataramanan’s wife pleading with passing vehicles for assistance, her hands folded in desperation, while her husband lay injured on the road. Several vehicles reportedly passed without stopping. A cab driver eventually intervened and took him to hospital, but Venkataramanan was declared dead on arrival. He leaves behind a five-year-old son, an 18-month-old daughter, and his mother, who had already lost five other children. In a gesture of generosity amid tragedy, the family has donated his eyes, according to reports.
