22 tourists rescued during first week of January

Calangute: A woman tourist from Kazakhstan suffered a deep cut on her feet after stepping on a broken bottle at Candolim beach. Drishti lifesavers provided first aid and carried out about 22 rescues during the first weekend of 2026.At Candolim, a girl from Moscow who was struggling in the water was rescued using a rescue tube. Two single rescues were reported at Baga after a man from Karnataka and a Russian tourist sought help. The Indian was rescued with a tube, while the foreigner was brought ashore using a jet ski.At Calangute, a father and daughter from Delhi were rescued. In separate rescues, a teenager from Uttar Pradesh and two men from Noida were saved.

A Russian tourist was rescued from around 50 metres into the sea at Arambol.Three tourists, including two men from Delhi and a Russian woman, were saved in a triple rescue at Morjim. First aid was given for a leg injury at Ashwem and for a jellyfish sting at Miramar. Two tourists from Bihar were rescued at Velsao.At Colva, a woman from Bengaluru was rescued after drifting out to sea. A three-year-old girl from Ponda and a seven-year-old child from Benaulim, reported missing, were traced. At Agonda, rip current rescues involved tourists from Pune, Mumbai and Andhra Pradesh.
