In a significant step towards promoting renewable energy and encouraging eco-friendly commuting, Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation Limited (CESC) on December 22 inaugurated an upgraded, state-of-the-art 30 kW EV fast-charging facility at its office premises.
The facility was inaugurated on the CESC office premises in Vijayanagar by Ramesh Bandisidde Gowda, CESC chairman and MLA, in the presence of K.M. Munigopal Raju, managing director.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Gowda said that the use of electric vehicles was steadily increasing and that CESC is encouraging their adoption. “This initiative will help reduce air pollution, lower dependence on imported fuel and promote the use of green energy,” he said.
The existing EV charging unit at the CESC office has been upgraded to a 30 kW fast-charging facility, enabling two cars to be charged simultaneously. With fast-charging technology, a vehicle can be fully charged in about 40 to 45 minutes.
The new EV charging unit has been set up in collaboration with Zion Electric, and users can access the charging hub through the Zion app. At present, the facility has been made available on a pilot basis for EVs used by the CESC office. Based on an assessment of its performance, maintenance and user experience, the corporation will decide on extending the service for public use in the future.
“CESC is keen to promote the use of renewable energy. With the launch of the EV fast-charging hub, we plan to establish more EV charging centres in Mysuru city and other areas under CESC’s jurisdiction to encourage the use of electric vehicles in the future,” Mr. Raju explained.
D.J. Divakar, CESC technical director, Sharanaamma S. Jangin, chief general manager (technical), G. Renuka, chief financial officer, general managers N.R. Tasneem Tabassum and R. Ramaswamy, and other officials were present.
