Ladakh, located in the Himalayas, is known greatly for its spiritual heritage in Tibetan Buddhism. Ladakh boasts many monasteries, also known as gompas, which are places of worship and are also important educational and cultural centres with centuries-old traditions.
These monasteries provide the perfect tranquil environment for meditation, reflection, and peaceful moments with oneself. Let’s look at some monasteries here: Alchi Monastery

The Alchi Monastery is located in the Alchi village of the Leh district and is also considered the oldest monastery in Ladakh. The most unique feature of this monastery is that while the majority of monasteries are located on top of a hill, this monastery is located on low land near the banks of the Indus River.
The Alchi Monastery also provides the perfect blend of Tibetan and Kashmiri art reflecting Buddhist and Hindu spiritual themes.
It consists of three major shrines: the Dukhang (Assembly Hall), the Sumtsek, and the Temple of Manjushri. One can also look at the oldest surviving paintings located here along with huge statues of Buddha. Basgo Monastery

The Basgo Monastery is actually on top of a hill and towers over the ruins of the ancient town and also comprises Buddha statues and murals. The complex of the monastery comprises the Chamchung, Chamba Lakhang, and Serzang temples, dedicated to the Maitreya Buddha. Lingshed Monastery

This monastery was earlier founded as a Geluk School Monastery, and the name literally means a hundred thousand images. Karsha Monastery
