Deceased octogenarian woman Kamli Devi
Dumka: An 81-year-old woman was killed while she was asleep by unknown criminals at her Fatehpur village home under the Rikhia police station late on Thursday night.Other members of the family, who were sleeping in other rooms of the house, discovered the incident when they woke up in the morning.
They also reported that valuables worth Rs 4 lakh have gone missing from the house.
The deceased was identified as Kamli Devi. Her grandson, Sandeep Kumar Raut, said after dinner, the family went to sleep. “In the morning, we discovered that the lock of the room where my grandmother was sleeping was broken, and the household items were scattered. We found the storage box empty,” Sandeep said, adding that Kamli Devi was lying on the floor near her bed with blood oozing from the wounds on her head.As she was still breathing, the family rushed her first to a private hospital in Kunda, but due to the unavailability of a doctor, she was taken to the Deoghar sadar hospital. The doctors there declared her dead.Sandeep alleged that the burglars attacked his grandmother with a heavy object on the head, as she might have either recognised them or resisted their move while they were carrying out the theft.Police from Rikhia station reached the spot after receiving the information and began investigations. “The body has been sent to the Deoghar sadar hospital for the post-mortem examination, and a further probe into the case is on,” said a police officer, adding that attempts were being made to identify the intruders.
