Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Wednesday conducted an on-site review of the Polavaram irrigation project works and directed the officials to complete the remaining works within the stipulated timeline.
Ministers Nimmala Ramanaidu (Water Resources Development), Kolusu Parthasarathy (I&PR) and Nadendla Manohar (Civil Supplies), along with other public representatives, participated in the review meeting. Senior officials and engineers from the Water Resources Department also present.
During the inspection, the officials informed the Chief Minister that nearly 87 per cent of the civil works of the project have been completed.
Emphasising the strategic importance of Polavaram project for Andhra Pradesh, Mr. Naidu instructed the executing agencies to expedite the works without any compromise on quality.
The Chief Minister emphasised the rehabilitation and resettlement (R&R) of project-affected families, asking the officials to accord top priority to these works.
He directed the officials to prepare a comprehensive action plan for R&R and ensure its effective implementation on the ground.
Mr. Naidu asked the officials to fast-track the construction of the Polavaram Left Canal. He suggested that plans be drawn up to ensure that water from the right canal reaches the Kolleru region, benefiting the ayacut areas there.
The Chief Minister said he would inspect the progress of the Polavaram project again in the first week of May.
