AC Milan Remain On Inter Heels As Christopher Nkunku Salvages Draw At Fiorentina

AC Milan secured a 1-1 draw at Fiorentina with Christopher Nkunku scoring the equaliser in the 90th minute at Stadio Artemio Franchi, preventing Fiorentina from achieving just their third win of a difficult season.

Fiorentina appeared poised for victory when Pietro Comuzzo headed in the opening goal in the 66th minute, but Nkunku’s late strike left the Tuscans on 14 points, sitting in 18th place.

In stoppage time, the hosts nearly clinched all three points twice. New signing Marco Brescianini struck the bar from close range, and Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan made a crucial dive at Moise Kean’s feet to stop the Italy striker from scoring the winner.

“We played well in the first half and created many chances that we failed to convert," said Milan coach Massimiliano Allegri. “We’re second in the league and need to maintain this, but we also need to be more clinical when dominating play."

Fiorentina are two points behind Genoa, who are just outside the relegation zone and host Cagliari on Monday evening.

Paolo Vanoli’s team seems to have turned a corner with only one defeat in their last five matches. Fans have shown renewed support after periods of protest over poor results and lack of direction.

Supporters applauded Fiorentina off the field for the second consecutive match, where they were again pegged back late. A last-minute Pedro penalty cost them a win at Lazio on Wednesday.

Napoli also maintained close contact with Serie A leaders Inter Milan, thanks to Scott McTominay’s double in Sunday’s thrilling 2-2 draw at the San Siro.

McTominay cancelled out strikes from Hakan Calhanoglu and Federico Dimarco as holders Napoli remained four points off the pace from table-toppers Inter Milan.
