A day after the BJP-Shiv Sena Mahayuti alliance swept the municipal corporation elections in Maharashtra, all the elected corporators of the Eknath Shinde-led party have been called at a five star hotel in Mumbai’s Bandra for a meeting on Saturday (January 17, 2026).

They will likely be kept there till the Mayoral choice is finalised, sources from the party told to The Hindu.

The BJP-led Mahayuti alliance swept the polls across the 29 municipal corporation elections with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis claiming victory in 25 of the 29 bodies.

In Mumbai, according to the latest figures, the BJP became the single largest party with 89 seats. Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena (UBT) got 65 seats, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena bagged 29, and Congress won 24.

On Friday (January 17, 2026, Mr. Shinde thanked voters for the Mahayuti’s stellar performance in the polls and said the verdict was an emphatic endorsement of the State government’s development agenda.

Mr. Shinde had demanded that his party contest in 100 of the 227 seats in the BMC when discussing sharing of seats with the BJP. After tough negotiations that lasted for a week, the party got to contest 90 seats.

“The Shiv Sena-BJP alliance has secured a decisive mandate not only in Thane but also in Mumbai and other civic bodies. The mayor in Mumbai and in municipal corporations across the State will be from the Mahayuti. The election results reflect a pro-Mahayuti atmosphere across Maharashtra,” he said.
