Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday sent his best wishes to the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) personnel and their families for the force’s 62nd Raising Day, praising their dedication and service to the country.
In a post on X, Shah commended the SSB for protecting India’s borders and supporting citizens during tough times.
He wrote, “Greetings to SSB personnel and their families on Raising Day. From guarding our borders to standing with citizens in times of crisis, the SSB has always made the nation proud. Salute to the martyrs who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty."

Last year, the 61st Raising Day event was held in Siliguri, West Bengal, where the Home Minister inaugurated the Integrated Check Point in Agartala and a new residential complex at Petrapole.
On that occasion, Shah and the force celebrated the SSB’s commitment to ‘service, security, and brotherhood’ and its tradition of trust and friendship with Nepal and Bhutan.
The SSB was established in 1963 after the 1962 India-China conflict and is one of India’s central armed police forces under the Ministry of Home Affairs. The SSB mainly guards the 2,450-kilometer border with Nepal and Bhutan, handles internal security, fights smuggling, and responds to disasters.
Over the years, the SSB has been key in keeping the borders safe, helping border communities feel secure, and supporting civil authorities during emergencies.
The annual Raising Day honors the dedication and sacrifices of SSB personnel and renews their commitment to national security. The SSB has also actively stopped drug smuggling, human trafficking, arms smuggling, and infiltration of anti-national elements at the border.
The force plays an important role in making the eastern region free of Naxal activity, working with the Central Reserve Police Force and local police.
