AMU student hangs self at hostel room during video call with father
AGRA: A 20-year-old student pursuing a diploma in computer science engineering at Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) allegedly died by suicide in her hostel room on the campus late Monday night. The deceased has been identified as Inshah Fatima, a final-year student and a resident of Azamgarh, who was staying at Sarojini Naidu (SN) Hall. According to police, Inshah allegedly hanged herself in her hostel room while speaking to her father on a video call. She was immediately rushed to JN Medical College in a critical condition, where she later died during treatment. Following the incident, the Civil Lines police took custody of the body and sent it for post-mortem examination. Police said an investigation is underway to ascertain the circumstances that led to the incident. The AMU administration has also launched an internal inquiry. Confirming the incident, Prof Mohammad Wasim Ali, proctor of Aligarh Muslim University, said to news agency ANI, “The girl was a final-year diploma student and had been staying in SN Hall. Around 7.30 pm, information was received that she had allegedly hanged herself in her room." He added, "She was immediately taken to the medical college, where doctors made all efforts to save her, but she could not be revived and was declared dead. This is a matter of investigation. If any complaint or FIR is filed, it will be probed, and the reason behind the incident will come to light. Her room was sealed immediately after the incident.”No suicide note was found.
