The Anantapur district police have won the prestigious State-level Award for Best Crime Detection (ABCD) for cracking a major international cybercrime racket. Director-General of Police Harish Kumar Gupta presented the award to Superintendent of Police P. Jagadeesh at the Police Headquarters in Mangalagiri on Friday (December 19), in the presence of Anantapur Range DIG Shemushi.

The award was conferred on Anantapur police in recognition of an outstanding investigation led by the SP with coordinated efforts by the Rayadurgam urban police station, Rayadurgam rural police station and the District Cybercrime Wing.

The team cracked a sophisticated fraud run from Cambodia, with Delhi as the domestic hub, where fake mobile applications were used to siphon off money and route it through multiple fake bank accounts before conversion into cryptocurrency.

The case came into light after a complaint was filed on June 18, 2025 by Narasimhappa, a software engineer from Veparalla village in Rayadurgam mandal. A case under Section 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Section 66(D) of the IT Act was registered by the area police.

Subsequently, the police nabbed five accused on August 1, and seized ₹41.20 lakh in cash, eight mobile phones, a car, 20 ATM cards, 15 SIM cards, five bank passbooks, 10 cheque books and two routers. Investigations revealed that the fraudulent money was channelled through 13 fake accounts across India.
