Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan on Friday discussed with officials of the Fisheries and Panchayat Raj & Rural Development (PR&RD) departments, and the Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI), Visakhapatnam, on ways to improve the lives of fishermen in the coastal villages of Kakinada district, especially Uppada, which is highly vulnerable to coastal erosion.
The focus was on enhancing their fishing capacity and means to earn additional income.
In the meeting held at his camp office, near Mangalagiri, Mr. Pawan Kalyan enquired about the 100-day action plan that was prepared to uplift the fishing communities, and instructed the officials to try to immediately resolve the issues raised by them during his recent visit to his constituency (Pithapuram).
He also called for steps to provide better fishing facilities, thereby improving the livelihood of fishermen, and emphasised the need to train fishermen in advanced fishing techniques and enhancing their skills.
He sought the cooperation of CMFRI-Visakhapatnam Principal Scientist and Head Joe K. Kizhakudan for achieving the stated objectives. Besides, he told the Kakinada District Collector to study and implement the CMFRI’s recommendations.
PR&RD Commissioner M.V.R. Krishna Teja, Fisheries Commissioner Ramasankar Naik, Collector S. Shan Mohan, Superintendent of Police Bindu Madhav, and Pithapuram Area Development Authority Project Director Chaitra Varshini were present.
