A Hindu man received serious injuries after he was allegedly attacked by a mob in Bangladesh and set on fire, in yet another incident that highlighted rising violence against minorities in the country.
The 50-year-old victim, identified as Khokon Das, suffered serious injuries after being attacked and set on fire in an incident that occurred on December 31 in Bangladesh’s Shariatpur district, according to reports. He was returning home when a mob allegedly intercepted him, assaulted him with sharp weapons, beat him repeatedly, and then set him ablaze.
The incident came a day after External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar was in Dhaka to attend the funeral of former prime minister Khaleda Zia, where he handed over a letter of condolences from Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) leader Tarique Rahman.
