Aiming to create a drug-free Irinjalakuda, the campaign ‘Madhuram Jeevitham’ (Life is Sweet) was officially launched by Minister for Higher Education R. Bindu on Sunday. Speaking at the inauguration, the Minister emphasised that the initiative goes beyond anti-drug awareness, targeting a broader spectrum of social dangers affecting the youth today.
“There is an urgent need to address the rising trend of violence and destructive behaviour among young people,” Dr. Bindu said. “This campaign integrates creative, community-driven programmes that can reach the grassroots, encouraging youth to embrace the sweetness of life and view it with positivity and purpose.”
The campaign includes the formation of vigilance committees at every level, strengthening of counselling services, and organising awareness drives in local bodies, industries, and institutions. The Minister called on the support of NSS volunteers, Kudumbashree members, and other grassroots forces to lead the anti-drug movement.
She also directed all educational institutions in the Irinjalakuda constituency to form vigilance committees by June 26, alongside conducting competitions and awareness activities.
The launch event featured a pledge against drug abuse, lighting of a unity lamp, anti-drug songs, and thematic dance performances. The event was presided over by Irinjalakuda Municipal chairperson Marykutty Joy.
