Kunal Ghosh, senior Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader, well-known journalist, and the party’s spokesperson, has called the SIR exercise in West Bengal an attempt by the BJP to resort to “backdoor politics", noting that despite the “conspiracies", the people will vote for chief minister Mamata Banerjee.
In an interview with News18, Ghosh, a long-time associate of the TMC who has remained closely involved in party activities at both organisational and public levels, also thanked the top brass for trusting him with the responsibility to represent his home turf in the upcoming polls.
“I am extremely happy and grateful. I have been associated with the party for a long time. I previously served as a Rajya Sabha MP, and at other times, I have worked as an ordinary soldier of the organisation. I sincerely thank Didi, Abhishek Banerjee, and the party leadership for giving me this responsibility. Beleghata is my home constituency—I was born here. In our party, we are all soldiers; everyone is equally important. We are all Mamata Banerjee’s soldiers, and we will win with a huge majority," he said.
Dismissing reports that SIR (Special Intensive Revision) had created tension for the party, he said: “They [BJP] do not have faith in Bengal. They resort to backdoor politics—sometimes through the CBI, sometimes through the ED—using central agencies to create pressure. But we have a saying: ‘In every season, our trust remains in Mamata Banerjee.’ Despite all conspiracies, the people of Bengal will vote for her. That is certain."
Ghosh also mocked Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s rally at Brigade Ground, saying there were more bamboo poles in attendance than voters and noted that “crowds alone do not translate into change". “There will be no “parivartan" or “pratyavartan" [reversion]. We have seen such gatherings before. The SUCI’s Brigade rallies have drawn significant crowds. Ultimately, it is the people’s mandate that matters."
He added that in Bhabanipur, “Mamata Banerjee will win by a margin of more than 50,000 votes".
