Comedian Pranit More has been trending online for quite a few weeks now. His 'Rs 370 Ki Biryani' clip has positioned him at the centre of internet hate and debate. Amidst this, while most have been condemning his actions, some are of the view that the ire against him must stop at some point now.Previously on June 11, Munawar Faruqui had taken to X to take an indirect dig at his friend Pranit More. He randomly made a post on the app reading, "Stop calling it a comedy show." This was around the same time that backlash against more was at its peak. Now, it seems Faruqui has had a change of heart. He took to Instagram, to share a video acknowledging that the comedian and the audience members had made problematic statements. However, he stressed that continuously targeting them online was not the right response.
He said he disagrees with the statement made by all, the comedian, the man, the woman and the audience's reaction to it."Mujhe lagta hai ab hum sabko tham jana chahiye. Comedian ne bahut galat baat boli, crowd work mein bhi bahut galat baat hui. Us ladki ne bhi jo bola, main usse disagree karta hoon. Unhone jo bola, mujhe sunna pasand nahi hai, lekin ek level hota hai," he said.He further said that people involved in the matter had faced major professional, legal and personal consequences and that the controversy should not continue to be exploited merely to create more social media content.
"FIR ho gayi, job chali gayi, career khatam ho gaya, samaj mein izzat chali gayi, sab ho gaya. Unke saath unki baaton ke liye bahut bura hua hai, lekin ab tham jao. Content ke naam par jo unhe nichoda ja raha hai, bas karo bhai," he said. Moreover, he warned people about the results of prolonged online harassment, which led to many giving up their lives. "Un logon ne jo baat boli, uska zakhm unhe mil gaya. Jab kisi ki laash niklegi na, tab tumhe samajh aayega.
Bas karo ab. Har cheez ki ek limit hoti hai. Legally unpar jo hona hoga, ho jayega, par tum ab chup ho jao."
What happened in the 'Rs 370 Ki Biryani' controversy?
The controversy stems from a clip during Pranit More's live show in Gurugram. In the video shared by the comedian on his Instagram as well, an audience member identified as Himanshu Jangra made an obscene comment. He shared that he took a woman on a date and spent approximately Rs 370 on the chicken biryani she had. However, after, the woman wanted to go home while Jangra expected a return, in the form of physical intimacy.
He shared how he tried to kiss a woman and initiate things further to get a return, despite not 'feeling it'.“Maine kaha ki Rs 370 lage hain to use to wasool to karunga hi,” he said. While the audience cackled at the anecdote, the comedian proceeded to award Jangra with Rs 5,000.As the clip went viral, both men faced backlash. While Jangra was trolled for ignoring the woman's consent and his sense of entitlement, More was attacked for his lack of accountability and for not reprimanding the man for his story.Over the weeks, the case has escalated enough for the Maharashtra Home Department to order a detailed probe into it and the Cyber Cell filing cases against More and Jangra. As of now, both men who initially deactivated their accounts have issued multiple apologies online.
