A 35-year-old woman was bludgeoned to death allegedly by her male friend who later dumped her body in an abandoned autorickshaw in Bengaluru’s Tilak Nagar, a few yards away from the police station, on Friday, October 24.

The murder came to light when a few passers-by noticed the body and alerted the police on Saturday evening. The police shifted the body for post-mortem.

Investigation revealed that the deceased, identified as Salma, a widow living with her four children, was working as a domestic help.

According to initial probe, she had a relationship with Subramani, a garment factory employee. Salma’s children had reportedly seen her go out with Subramani late in the night on Friday. This helped the police zero in on the accused.

The police have also verified CCTV footage at the spot and found that the duo had argued over some issue, following which Subramani attacked her with a blunt weapon.

The blow killed her on the spot, following which Subramani reportedly sought the help of his friend Senthil, a daily-wage labourer, to wrap the body in a cloth and dump it in an abandoned auto before fleeing the spot. The police gathered the CCTV footage to corroborate the evidence they have obtained.

Senior police officials have launched a manhunt for Subramani and Senthil who are presently on the run.
