The death of six-year-old P Vennela, which had remained a mystery since March, has been cracked with a chilling confession from the prime accused. Mohan GN, the live-in partner of the girl’s mother Priyanka, told police he struck the child in the stomach and forcibly covered her mouth to silence her cries — a fatal sequence of acts that led to her death.

According to Times of India, the incident unfolded on the night of March 24, when Mohan, Priyanka, and Vennela were returning from Hoskote after a dinner of biryani and ice cream.

The child accidentally spilled her dessert inside their MUV, which triggered the assault. Mohan was arrested on June 4, following a murder complaint by the girl’s father Praveen, an educationist from Davanagere.

What Did The Accused Confess?

During interrogation, Mohan reportedly told investigators: “Vennela spilled her ice cream all over the seat and on the foot mat. She was crying for a different cone. In a fit of rage, I hit her on the stomach with my elbow and tight-shut her mouth when she started crying loudly."

A histopathology report, which TOI had highlighted on June 8, confirmed internal injuries in Vennela’s abdomen, consistent with his account.

Police said a combination of severe internal injuries and smothering caused the child’s death. The MUV is currently undergoing advanced forensic testing to corroborate the confession.

A Web Of Broken Relationships

Vennela was the daughter of Praveen and Priyanka, an advocate, who separated after Priyanka reconnected with Mohan — described as an old college friend.

The couple moved into a luxury villa in east Bengaluru in January. Praveen alleged in his complaint that Priyanka had forced him to sign divorce papers. Mohan, a realtor, is himself married with two children, having abandoned his family before moving in with Priyanka.

Mohan is currently in 10-day police custody. Priyanka remains at large. Praveen lives in Davanagere with the couple’s elder daughter.
