In a major setback, the Rashtriya Lok Janshakti Party (RLJP) announced that it will not contest the Bihar polls in alliance with the Mahagathbandhan. Party chief Pashupati Kumar Paras further stated that the RLJP will instead contest the upcoming polls in alliance with Owaisi’s party AIMIM.
Earlier last week, Pashupati Paras had hinted that his party would not become part of the Mahagathbandhan and stated that RJLP is deciding on whether to contest its decision on whether to join any alliance or not.
The two-phase Bihar assembly elections will be held on November 6 and 11.
Rift In Mahagathbandhan
As the alliance is set to finalise the seat-sharing arrangement with its Mahagathbandhan allies, the Congress party on Wednesday night started announcing its candidates for the elections.
According to the announcement made by the party’s Bihar unit, Congress state president Rajesh Ram is contesting from the Kutumba assembly constituency.
The Congress leadership is in talks with its alliance partners, including the RJD, but the seat-sharing arrangement has neither been finalised nor announced.
The development came as RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav filed his nomination from Raghopur Assembly seat on Wednesday.
