The BJP has withdrawn the candidature of Pooja More-Jadhav for the Pune civic polls following strong objections from party workers.

More-Jadhav had been issued the BJP’s AB form for Ward No. 2 under the quota of its ally, the Republican Party of India (RPI). However, her nomination ran into controversy after old videos surfaced on social media in which she was allegedly seen making personal remarks against Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and his wife during the Maratha quota agitation.

Union minister and Pune BJP MP Murlidhar Mohol confirmed that the party has withdrawn her nomination in view of the backlash.

Responding to the development, More-Jadhav said she had become a target of social media trolling. “There was misinformation spread about me, and attempts were made to portray that I do not believe in the BJP’s ideology. Considering the trolling and the situation it created, I took a conscious decision to withdraw my nomination," she said.

She also claimed that the controversial remarks were made by “some other girl" and were wrongly attributed to her by trolls on social media, leading to the controversy around her candidature.
