Controversy erupted at an event to mark the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel in Madhya Pradesh’s Satna when BJP MP Ganesh Singh slapped the operator of a crane after a mechanical malfunction left the MP briefly stranded.
The incident took place on Friday afternoon at Semariya Chowk during the “Run for Unity” event. Singh was being lifted on a hydraulic crane to garland a statue of B R Ambedkar when the machine jolted and stopped, leaving him stranded for several seconds.
After descending, the visibly angry lawmaker summoned the operator, Ganesh Kushwaha, a municipal employee, and slapped him in front of BJP workers, administration officials, and bystanders.

The Congress condemned the incident as “a display of arrogance and power intoxication”. State party spokesperson Abhinav Baraulia said, “This is the real face of the BJP, where leaders believe they own the public servants and the public alike.”
Local authorities did not comment on the matter and it is not known if the crane operator filed a complaint.
Ganesh Singh did not respond to calls and messages seeking a comment.
BJP leader Neeta Soni defended the MP, saying in a post on social media, “The MP merely slapped him. His arms and legs should have been broken. If he (the MP) had fallen from that height, who would have taken responsibility?”
