Harry Kane scored in each half as Bayern Munich cruised to a 5-0 victory over Hamburg on Saturday, extending their perfect start to the Bundesliga season.
The England captain now has 93 goals in 101 games for Bayern, further cementing his role as the club’s star striker. Serge Gnabry, Luis Díaz, and Aleksandar Pavlović were also on target in a dominant display at the Allianz Arena.
The win places Bayern atop the Bundesliga table as the only side with three wins from three matches.
Once considered equals in German football, Bayern and Hamburg have taken very different paths since their glory days in the 1980s, when both clubs were European Cup winners.
Bayern have gone on to dominate domestically, winning 12 of the last 13 Bundesliga titles. Hamburg, meanwhile, endured a seven-year stint in the second division before finally securing promotion last season.
Their meetings in Munich underline that gulf: since Hamburg’s last away win in 2007, Bayern have won 16 and drawn three at home in the fixture, scoring 76 goals to Hamburg’s seven — a run that includes two 8-0 results and a 9-2 demolition.
Bayern wasted no time asserting themselves, scoring 4 goals within the first 30 mins.
Chelsea loanee Nicolas Jackson made his Bayern debut as a halftime substitute, but it was Kane who rounded out the scoring in the 62nd minute, starting and finishing a slick move for his second of the night.
Bayern now turn their attention to their Champions League opener against Chelsea on Wednesday, a clash with added intrigue given Jackson’s loan move from the London club.
Guirassy Strikes Again as Dortmund Win
Elsewhere, Borussia Dortmund claimed a 2-0 victory at Heidenheim, powered by another goal from red-hot forward Serhou Guirassy.
Heidenheim’s Budu Zivzivadze was shown a straight red card in the 21st minute for a reckless studs-up challenge on Felix Nmecha. From there, Dortmund took control.
Dortmund sporting director Sebastian Kehl kept his praise for Guirassy brief: “Serhou scores again."
The 29-year-old has 18 goals in his last 15 games across competitions and will lead Dortmund into Tuesday’s Champions League clash with Juventus.
Freiburg’s Late Flurry, Union Berlin Collapse, Leipzig Edge Mainz
At Freiburg, the hosts struck three times in the final 10 minutes to overturn Stuttgart’s lead and claim a 3-1 win.
Union Berlin endured a rough night in a 4-2 home loss to Hoffenheim, conceding two penalties and finishing with 10 men.
Elsewhere, Johan Bakayoko netted his first goal for RB Leipzig in a narrow 1-0 victory at Mainz.
Promoted Cologne earned a remarkable point with a last-gasp equalizer in a 3-3 draw at Wolfsburg.
On-loan forward Jakub Kamiński scored in the 14th minute of second-half stoppage time to deny his parent club the win and cap off a wild finish.
