Indian boxing enjoyed a landmark night at the M&S Bank Arena in Liverpool, with Jaismine Lamboria clinching gold in the 57kg featherweight division and teammates Nupur Sheoran and Pooja Rani adding silver and bronze medals respectively.

Jaismine Creates History with Golden Triumph

The 24-year-old Jaismine delivered the performance of her career, defeating Paris Olympics silver medallist Julia Szeremeta of Poland in the final. Displaying remarkable composure and tactical discipline, Jaismine prevailed by a 4-1 split verdict (30-27, 29-28, 30-27, 28-29, 29-28).

After conceding the opening round 2-3 to the shorter and sharper Szeremeta, Jaismine recalibrated her approach to skillfully evade her opponet while landing deft timely punches to eke out the gruelling win.

Her reaction to the announcement was uncharacteristically raw — a brief shout of joy before embracing her rival. As the Indian anthem played, Jaismine’s tearful smile summed up the moment.

“This feeling can’t be expressed. I’m so happy to be a world champion," she said. “After my early exit at Paris 2024, I worked on my technique physically and mentally. This is the result of consistent effort for a year."

Jaismine became the ninth Indian boxer to win a world title, joining an elite list led by Mary Kom, Nikhat Zareen, and Lovlina Borgohain.

Nupur Battles to Silver

In the 80+kg final, Nupur Sheoran went down 2-3 in a nail-biter against Poland’s Agata Kaczmarska. Despite her height and reach advantage, Nupur struggled to dominate as Kaczmarska’s aggression and body shots gradually tilted the bout.

The defining moment arrived in the last round when Kaczmarska’s uppercut swung the momentum. Nupur, visibly drained, could not recover, settling for silver in her maiden World Championships final.

Pooja Adds Bronze

Veteran Pooja Rani capped India’s medal haul with bronze in the 80kg division. She started brightly in her semifinal against England’s Emily Asquith, but the younger local boxer adjusted quickly to take control, winning 4-1 on points.
