It’s been a long time coming for one young buck in Detroit, and his day was finally here.
Detroit Pistons star Cade Cunningham delivered a performance for the ages on Monday night — one that will go down in NBA history for both record-breaking brilliance and relentless shot-making.
In the Pistons’ 137–135 overtime win over the Washington Wizards, the 24-year-old point guard exploded for 46 points, 12 rebounds, 11 assists, five steals, and two blocks, putting together one of the most complete stat lines in league history.
The performance made Cunningham just the second player ever, after Michael Jordan, to record at least 40 points, 10 rebounds, 10 assists, and five steals in a single NBA game.

It was the kind of night that underscored why Detroit’s young floor general is rapidly becoming one of the NBA’s most dynamic all-around stars.
Coming off his Eastern Conference Player of the Week award, after averaging 31.0 points and 9.8 assists in a 4–0 stretch, Cunningham once again showed that he can carry a franchise on his back.
But history has a sense of irony. In his breathtaking effort,
Cunningham also broke Kobe Bryant’s infamous record for most missed shots in a single game since official stats began in 1983–84. Cunningham went 14-of-45 from the field, missing 31 attempts — one more than Bryant’s 30 misses in 2002.
Still, what stood out wasn’t the inefficiency; it was the fight.
After taking a hard fall on a fast-break foul late in the fourth quarter, Cunningham returned to chants of “MVP!" from the Detroit crowd and led a furious comeback from eight points down.
The Pistons, missing six key players, now sit atop the Eastern Conference with a 9–2 record, their best start in decades.
