The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a senior Indian Revenue Service (IRS) official currently posted as Additional Director-General with the Directorate of Taxpayer Services, Delhi, along with one other individual, on the charge of accepting ₹25 lakh in bribe.
The accused have been identified as Amit Kumar Singal, IRS official of the 2007 batch, and one Harsh Kotak.
On Friday (May 30, 2025), the agency registered the case on the allegation that the official had demanded illegal gratification of ₹45 lakh from the complainant for extending favourable treatment from the Revenue/Income Tax Department. The demand was accompanied by threats of legal action, imposition of heavy penalties, and harassment in case of non-compliance.
Based on the findings, the CBI laid a trap, caught the accused private person red-handed while receiving ₹25 lakh from the complainant on behalf of the accused public servant, at the latter’s residence in Punjab’s Mohali. The official was picked up from his Delhi accommodation in Vasant Kunj. Subsequently, the agency conducted searches at multiple locations in Delhi, Punjab, and Mumbai.
