Tripling works on the Kazipet-Balharshah, Kazipet-Vijayawada and Vijayawada-Guntur sections are nearing completion, with several doubling and new line projects also progressing, South Central Railway general manager Sanjay Kumar Srivastava said at the 76th Zonal Railway Users Consultative Committee meeting on Wednesday.

He said the administration was expediting infrastructure development with focus on last-mile connectivity. CCTV surveillance would soon be introduced at 453 more stations, in addition to the 78 where it is already in place. Redevelopment of 119 stations was also under way. In recent months, around 10 manned level crossings were eliminated, seven road over bridges and 17 road under bridges constructed.

Mr. Srivastava shared these updates with the 22-member committee, which included four MPs.

The SCR recorded originating revenue of ₹8,593 crore between April and August, transporting 60.4 million tonnes of freight. Electrification has been completed across the zone, barring new lines under construction. Members raised concerns over halts, passenger amenities, new trains, timings, and new line projects. The GM assured that these suggestions would be factored into future planning.

MPs Magunta Srinivasula Reddy (Ongole), Eatala Rajender (Malkajgiri), D.K. Aruna (Mahabubnagar) and G.M. Harish Balayogi (Amalapuram) were among those who attended, according to a press release.
