Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation Limited (CESC) managing director K.M. Munigopal Raju said CESC has proposed to set up 90 stations within its jurisdiction during the current year to strengthen power distribution. In addition, 100 new feeders will be connected to the grid by March, he added.

He was speaking after inaugurating a one-day training programme on ‘Energy (Electricity) Auditing and Reduction of Losses in IP Feeders’, organised by the Karnataka Electricity Board Engineers’ Association (KEBEA), Mysuru Zone Centre, for CESC officials at the KEBEA auditorium in Kadakola near Mysuru on January 3.

He called upon officials to adopt sound technical practices to curb energy leakage, reduce power interruptions, and minimise financial losses.

Mr. Raju said that an energy audit conducted earlier at the Balupete feeder in Sakleshpur revealed losses ranging between 40 and 43%. However, with technical interventions, the leakage was successfully brought down to 12%. This, he said, resulted in higher revenue for the corporation, reduced power disruptions, and improved maintenance of feeders, transformers, and meters.

He said that the Energy Department is currently prioritising innovation and has prepared an action plan to generate 5,000 megawatts of power, with a target of achieving it within a year.

The CESC managing director said special technical measures should be implemented in feeders identified with high energy leakage to reduce losses.

Later, retired technical director S. Mahesh conducted a technical workshop, offering practical demonstrations and detailed insights into energy auditing techniques and measures to reduce energy leakage and financial losses.
