Joe Burrow heads to more uncertainty following a week 2 mishap: Image via X
Bengals hit a roadblock again, and this time, a nasty toe ailment is to blame. Joe Burrow, 28, is out for a while after a bittersweet week 2 against the Jaguars. The Bengals have to look to their backup gun, Jake Browning, to keep the Vikings in check next week and beyond.
Although Browning seems to give off an elite vibe to replace the injured QB with an overall stat of 21-of-32, 241 yards, 2 TDs, 3 INTs under his belt, losing Joe in the early season is still a punch in the gut for Zac Taylor and the entire lineup. The worst part is that the consequences might be worse than all the angst.
Joe Burrow's toe injury turns out to be worse
Bengals occupy the top spot in the AFC North, marking their first 2-0 start in seven years, and they can't really afford to lose the stupendous pace.
The men in orange managed to pull off a phenomenal 31-27 victory against the Jaguars last week, but at what cost? When it was 8:36 remaining on the clock during the last half, Burrow was seen limping. Later, it turned out to be a grave left toe injury as he needed help to get off the field midway.
Now, amidst all the initial medical and athletic concerns, the one question that's been a recurring theme is when will the Cincinnati treasure be back in his boots? Well, there ain't any good news for the cherry folks out there.
Foot specialist Dr. Robert Anderson spilled via ESPN that he might need surgery soon, and in that case, it might take around three months for the 28-year-old to see the field again. A turf toe with torn ligaments ain't likely to leave him in peace soon. But what's pertinent to note here was the fact that surgery was all but guaranteed. Bengals still grooved into an ace in the hole, but now it looked like a real menace. ''3 months is very optimistic [sic]!” former Chargers NFL doctor David J.
Chao confirmed on X. “Surgery means end of season. Horrible news.”
Now, what's next for the Bengals?
The Cincinnati Bengals might not be under the deep sea right ahead
Jaguars' defensive lineman Arik Armstead sacked Burrow off guard after he racked up 8 of 14 passing for 83 yards and a terrific touchdown. But the way he looked defenseless when brought to the ground looks sick. Fans picked up on the loopholes and slammed him on Twitter for not being in control. Browning seamlessly adapted from where Burrow left and didn't let the ship sink with a stunning pass for 241 yards and a game-winning touchdown (total 3 touchdowns and three interceptions) on a one-yard sneak. But again, that doesn't at all dilute the concern of Burrow ending up in the MRI room. But anyhow, the veteran backup settling in good form is rather tolerable in the midst of all other misfortune. The second ease for the pain is that they might call Kirk Cousins (who still has something to prove at the age of 37) to be around if Burrow remains on the shelf longer than expected.
