CITU members have alleged that gram panchayats in Belagavi district of Karnataka have not paid wages to contract workers for nearly seven months.
They submitted a memorandum to the Zilla Panchayat CEO Rahul Shinde in Belagavi on June 24 claiming that Grama Mitra and Kayaka Mitra contract workers at the gram panchayat levels had not received their honourarium amounts for nearly seven months.
“There are around 250 such workers, mostly women. Each such worker is given charge of MGNREGA work in every two GPs. They get a honourarium amount of ₹12,250 per month. But this amount has been delayed, and the workers are suffering. They need immediate relief,” Manda Navagi, convenor of CITU, said.
Mr. Shinde promised to look into the matter.
