Convicted ex-MP Prajwal Revanna now library clerk in Bengaluru jail; tasked with issuing books, keeping records

BENGALURU: Former Hassan MP Prajwal Revanna, convicted in a rape case, has been assigned to work as a library clerk at Central Prison, Parappana Agrahara, where he is serving life sentence.Additional director general of police (prisons) B Dayananda confirmed to TOI that Prajwal is working in the prison library.

Officials did not reveal how much Prajwal will get paid per day. However, prisoners in Karnataka get paid between Rs 524 (unskilled) and Rs 663 (highly skilled), depending on the nature of job, as per the home department. While Rs 524 is the least and Rs 663 is the highest, jobs in the other two categories, semi-skilled and skilled, have salaries of Rs 548 and Rs 615.Prajwal is scheduled to work 2-3 days a week, drawing salary only for the days he is on duty.Following the Special Investigation Team of the Criminal Investigation Department filing the chargesheet after proving the crimes, Prajwal was convicted to life by a special court on Aug 2 for repeatedly raping his domestic helper. He was fined Rs 11.6 lakh in compensation to the victim.
