Spanish heavyweights Real Madrid registered a 2-0 win over Sevilla at home on Saturday as Jude Belingham and Kylian Mbappe netted for the Capital City club.

Bellingham opened the scoring in the 38th minute of the game before Mbappe put the result beyond doubt with his 86th-minute goal to seal the deal.

Despite the win, Madrid are a point behind La Liga leaders Barcelona, who also have a game in hand. Madrid boss Xabi Alonso, who has come under immense scrutiny since his switch to Los Blancos, revealed that he isn’t too flattered with his side’s showing.

“I’m not happy with our level today. My mood doesn’t change at all, I understand the game, I analyze it," the Spanish World Cup-winner said.

“I’m critical in a constructive way, but I put it into context, where we came from and what’s coming for us from January onwards," he added.

Alonso, who shot to fame as a manager on the back of his invincible season with German side Bayer Leverkusen as he led the outfit to their maiden Bundesliga title, has been handed a reality check ever since taking over the job at Madrid, following in the footsteps of Carlo Ancelotti.

Madrid have 42 points in 18 outings this season, one behind Barca with 43 points in 17 fixtures, ahead of their game at third-placed Villarreal on Sunday.

Mbappe’s strike saw him equal Cristiano Ronaldo’s Real Madrid record from 2013, of netting 59 goals in the calendar year, a remarkable feat achieved in his very first season at the club.

The Frenchman has now struck 29 goals in 24 appearances this campaign and leads La Liga’s scoring charts once again, having already claimed the European Golden Shoe last season.
