Cyberabad Traffic Police book 305 for drunk driving in weekend crackdown

The Cyberabad Traffic Police booked 305 male motorists for drunk driving during a weekend special enforcement drive, with two-wheeler riders making up the majority of offenders.

The drive, carried out across 17 police station limits, forms part of a continued campaign to curb road accidents caused by intoxicated driving.

Among the 305 cases, 242 involved two-wheelers, followed by 47 cases involving four-wheelers and 16 involving three-wheelers. No heavy vehicles were intercepted, and all the apprehended were men, said an officer from Cyberabad Traffic Police.

“The highest number of cases was registered by Miyapur Traffic Police with 52 bookings. Chevella and Balanagar followed with 30 cases each, while Shamshabad recorded 28. Age-wise data revealed that drunk driving continues to be prevalent among younger and middle-aged drivers. The 31–40 age group accounted for the highest number of cases with 116 offenders, followed by 92 in the 21–30 bracket. The 41–50 age group saw 74 cases, while 20 were aged 51–60. Just two drivers were over 60, and none were under 18.

Cyberabad Police have warned that anyone found drunk driving and causing a fatal accident will be charged under Section 105 of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita 2023, for culpable homicide not amounting to murder, a serious offence punishable with up to 10 years of imprisonment along with a fine.
