The officials are against taking any chances this time in the wake of severe damage suffered by the district during Hud-Hud, Titli and other cyclones. Srikakulam district, which has a 185-km-long coast from Pydibhimavaram to Ichachapuram, has been facing unprecedented damage due to the cyclones, even if they cross the coast at other places such as Kakinada and Visakhapatnam.
A dedicated control room (08942-240557) has been set up in the Srikakulam Collector’s office to monitor vulnerable areas such as Palasa, Sompeta, Santabommali, Kotabommali, and other regions that are part of the Uddanam area, known for its cashew and coconut groves. Srikakulam in-charge Collector Farman Ahmed Khan organised a teleconference with all concerned officials and directed them to maintain perfect coordination to handle the crisis.

Mr. Khan asked the fishermen not to venture into the sea for the next week since the sea would be very rough under the impact of the cyclone.
He asked the irrigation officials to monitor the inflows into major rivers like Vamsadhara and Nagavali, as flooding was another major challenge after the cyclone hit the coast. He directed the officials to shift the people of low-lying areas to safer places as early as possible.

Vizianagaram Collector S. Ramsundar Reddy has also organised a meeting with officials concerned to take remedial measures to minimise the damage due to the cyclone. He asked officials of Bhogapuram and Pusapatirega mandals to be alert, as over 50 villages of those mandals are located very close to the sea coast. He asked agriculture officials to alert the farmers to protect the standing crops.
