Davey Johnson, who led the New York Mets to the 1986 World Series, has died at the age of 82. His wife, Susan, said he passed away on Friday after a long illness. He died in Sarasota, Florida.

Johnson was both a star player and a top manager. He won two World Series as a player and one as a manager. The Mets confirmed the news, which was shared by many baseball fans and reporters.

Davey Johnson was a champion player and manager

Davey Johnson was born in Orlando, Florida, in 1943. He played in Major League Baseball for 13 seasons. He was a second baseman and made four All-Star teams. He also won three Gold Glove awards. Johnson won the World Series with the Baltimore Orioles in 1966 and 1970.

He later became a manager. The Mets hired him in 1984. He quickly built the team into a winner. In 1986, the Mets won 108 games in the regular season. They went on to beat the Boston Red Sox in seven games in the World Series.Johnson also managed the Cincinnati Reds, Baltimore Orioles, Los Angeles Dodgers, and Washington Nationals. He won 1,372 games as a manager. He retired in 2013 after leading the Nationals.
