The India Meteorological Department, Amaravati, has issued alerts for across the State as the well marked low-pressure area over southeast Bay of Bengal concentrated into a depression at 5.30 a.m. on Saturday. The Central parts of A.P. are likely to be most-affected districts during the cyclonic storm ‘Montha’.
The depression over southeast Bay of Bengal, which remained over the same region at 8.30 a.m., is likely to intensify into a deep depression by October 26 and into a cyclonic storm over southwest and westcentral Bay of Bengal by Monday October 27, morning. It will then intensify into a severe cyclonic storm by October 28.
The severe cyclonic storm is very likely to cross Andhra Pradesh coast between Machilipatnam and Kalingapatnam, on the evening of October 28, with a maximum wind speed of 90-100 kmph, gusting to 110 kmph, according to the IMD.

As a result, the IMD, has issued red alerts for six districts for Monday, October 27, and for 12 districts on Tuesday, October 28, and Wednesday, October 29. The districts where a red alert is in place are — Bapatla, Prakasam, SPSR Nellore, Tirupati, Annamayya and YSR Kadapa. Orange alerts have been given for the districts of — Krishna, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Konaseema, West Godavari, Guntur, Palnadu, Nandyal and Chittoor for Monday.
The districts that are likely to receive extremely heavy rainfall on Tuesday and Wednesday are — YSR Kadapa, Prakasam, Palnadu, Bapatla, Guntur, NTR, Krishna, West Godavari, Eluru, East Godavari, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Konaseema and Kakinada. There is a red alert for the above 12 districts.
Orange alerts have been issued for the districts of Alluri Sitarama Raju, Visakhapatnam, Anakapalli, SPSR Nellore, Tirupati and Nandyal on Tuesday and Wednesday. The remaining districts have been given yellow alerts.
Thunderstorms, accompanied with lightning, are likely across the State on Tuesday and Wednesday. Squally winds with speed of 60-70kmph, gusting up to 80 kmph, are likely at isolated places in the State on Tuesday, while on Wednesday gale winds, with the speed of 90-100 kmph, are likely at isolated places in North and South Coastal A.P.
There are no such alerts for Sunday October 26 and Thursday October 30, but heavy rainfall is likely in a few places across the State.
