Deputy Commissioner Divya Prabhu G.R.J. has instructed officials to speed up work on the Government First Grade Women’s College in Dharwad.
She visited the construction site in the city on Thursday and spoke to officials and reviewed the progress of work.
She instructed the construction agency to complete the work and hand over the building for use by January 2026.
The Deputy Commissioner inspected the progress of work in the college, building infrastructure, requirements of students and classroom facilities and held onsite discussions with the officials concerned.
Later, addressing the officials, the Deputy Commissioner said that the building should be constructed in a way that will be highly useful academically. All necessary facilities for students must be ensured. She directed the contractor to complete the construction of the well-equipped building at the earliest.
The estimated cost of the building is ₹3.5 crore. The facility will include three classrooms, a library, an administrative office, a staff room, a principal’s chamber, eight toilets as well as a toilet for differently-abled students and lift facility, she said.
The contractors assured that the construction will be fully completed within the stipulated timeline.
College principal S.S. Angadi spoke about the condition of the old building, the need for repairs and the requirement for additional classrooms.
