A few months ago, in the popular ESPN documentary, The Kingdom, Patrick Mahomes reflected on his relationship with Brittany Mahomes as he opened up about how their love story actually began.

The Kansas City Chiefs’ quarterback said, “It took a long time, there were a couple times when I tried to get out of the friend zone and it didn’t work.”

While things reportedly stayed like this for a few months, it was Patrick Mahomes’ mother, Randi Mahomes, who ended up changing their relationship.On Valentine’s Day, as the two attended the Whitehouse High School in Texas, Patrick Mahomes decided to surprise his now wife, Brittany Mahomes, with some help from his mother.Patrick Mahomes added, "My mom had given me a card to give to somebody, and I was like, I'm gonna give it to Brittany, I'm gonna surprise her at lunch…”While Patrick Mahomes did not go into details on how Brittany Mahomes must have reacted to the surprise, it seems their relationship began on this day.

A year later, in 2013, Patrick Mahomes posted a number of pictures with Brittany Mahomes as the two attended prom together. The caption of the post read as, "Best prom date a guy could ask for!!"

The two stayed together through college and continued their relationship as they attended different colleges.
