District collector urged to curb stray dog menace in Vedapatti town panchayat

COIMBATORE: More than 30 residents of KG Garden City in Vedapatti town panchayat petitioned the district collector on Monday to curb the stray dog menace in their area. They alleged that stray dogs were entering gated communities by jumping over compound walls.

They said no action had been taken despite multiple complaints to the apartment administration.

The apartment complex comprises more than 900 with around 2,500 people living in them.Uma Maheshwari, 54, one of the petitioners, expressed her anguish over recent incidents of dogs chasing children within the community. She said, “In the last six months, more than three incidents were reported, of which one was a bite case. A young man who was heading to work was chased by a dog. The dog bit on his leg. Similarly, the dogs that entered the compound had chased children who were playing. When there is no safety within the gated community, just imagine the situation outside.”
