Domestic help, husband arrested on theft charges

The Sadashivanagar police have arrested a 19-year-old domestic help and her husband for stealing valuables worth ₹1.37 crore from a businessman’s residence where she was working.

The arrested accused have been identified as Hajira Begum, 19 and her husband Shabbir Hussain, 23, both natives of Assam.

According to the police, Hajira was employed as a domestic help at the victim’s house. Taking advantage of the family’s absence during New Year celebrations, she allegedly stole valuables with the assistance of her husband. The stolen items included 787.66 gm of gold ornaments, 291 gm of silver ornaments, and seven wrist watches, collectively valued at ₹1.37 crore.

The theft reportedly occurred while the businessman and his family were away from the city. Police said the stolen articles were recovered from the possession of the accused. Both were remanded in judicial custody.

House break-in and theft

In a separate incident, Vidyaranyapura police have arrested four persons in connection with a house break-in and theft involving valuables worth ₹1.03 crore.

According to the police, the theft occurred while the homeowner and his family were traveling to Maharashtra. Investigations revealed that the accused included the victim’s car driver and two domestic helpers, who allegedly handed over the house keys to two accomplices to carry out the theft.

From the accused, police recovered 550 gm of gold ornaments, 4 kg of silver articles, ₹4 lakh in cash, and seized a two-wheeler used in the commission of the crime.
