Sayani Gupta on finding solace in Goa and her career choices
Sayani Gupta shares a long-standing connection with Goa, having spent considerable time in the state during the lockdown. “I stayed here for quite some time back then, and I try to come to Goa often,” she says during her recent visit.
“I have friends who live here, but I don’t really get a break from work—I’m working all the time. So it’s tricky. Still, I’d love to live in Goa someday," she shares.Sayani attended a few masterclasses at the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) a couple of months ago and describes the experience as deeply enriching. “It was incredible. I’m really glad I did this—the way the sessions were conducted was wonderful,” she says.'As an actor, you take up roles that speak to you in some way'Known for her work in Delhi Crime and Four More Shots Please!, Sayani Gupta says her career choices are guided by creative intent and the scope for growth. “When I read a script, I look at the intent of the filmmaker and the overall story. I also consider how much scope the role gives me as an actor—whether it challenges me or takes me somewhere I haven’t been before. If I’ve already done something similar, I usually don’t want to repeat it," she says, adding, “As an actor, you take up roles that speak to you in some way — roles that allow her to evolve both creatively and emotionally.
