Brazilian wunderkind Endrick, who completed a sensational loan switch to Ligue 1 side Olympique Lyon from Spanish heavyweights Real Madrid in December, seeks to fight for his place in the national squad ahead of the upcoming FIFA World Cup 2026 slated to be held in the USA, Canada and Mexico.
The 19-year-old is set for his Lyon debut when they take on Lille in the Round of 32 fixture in the French Cup on Sunday.
“I’m going to fight to play in the World Cup," the teenager said.
Endrick hasn’t been called up to the Canarinhos since former Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti took over as the head coach of the side chasing their record-extending sixth World Cup title.
“I’ve found the ideal club and I can’t wait to play," the Brazilian said.
Lyon will cover half of the players’ wages as part of the agreement and no option for a buy clause has been stipulated.
Born Endrick Felipe Moreira de Sousa, in Taguatinga, the youngster, who started his career at Palmeiras drew comparison to the legendary Pele early in life and secured a high-profile move to Spanish outfit Real Madrid. The forward, however, has found playtime difficult to come by and will hope the six-month period at Lyon would advance his profile in the eyes of Madrid.
