Feasts, special poojas, distribution of sweets and bursting of crackers marked Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s record of equalling former Chief Minister D. Devaraj Urs’ tenure as the longest-serving Chief Minister of the State, in Mysuru on January 6.

A group of Congressmen from Mysuru, including M.K. Somashekar, former MLA, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) spokespersons M. Lakshmana and H.A. Venkatesh, besides Mysuru city and District Congress Committee presidents R. Murthy and B.J. Vijaykumar, gathered near the 101 Ganapathi Temple at Agrahara here for a special pooja.

After the pooja, Congress leaders burst crackers and distributed sweets to the general public.

Meanwhile, feasts comprising ‘Nati Koli’ or ‘country chicken’ were served to the general public by AHINDA members near Mr. Siddaramaiah’s residence in Mysuru.

Mr. Siddaramaiah acknowledged that he relished country chicken dishes. He pointed out that in villages, country chicken is usually cooked only when relatives visit. “As I come from a rural background, I naturally ate country chicken and ragi mudde. This is the traditional food of villagers. Since I am the Chief Minister now, it is receiving some publicity,” he said.
