Fetal anomalies scanning unit set up in 7 secondary hospitals in State

The TDP-led NDA government in Andhra Pradesh has made Targeted Imaging for Fetal Anomalies (TIFFA) scanning facilities available in seven secondary hospitals, as part of maternal and child healthcare initiatives, said Minister for Health, Family Welfare, and Medical Education Satya Kumar Yadav on Monday (December 22, 2025).

The scanning facility has come up at the area hospitals in Narsipatnam, Tuni, and Nandigama and the Mother and Child Hospital in Ongole and the district hospitals in Parvathipuram, Tenali, and Anakapalli, the Minister said, adding that the department is at present reviewing these services and that the full range of services would be available to pregnant women from January 1, 2026.

Until now, TIFFA scanning facilities were available only in government teaching hospitals, which forced women to travel long distances, while the same scan can cost between ₹3,000 and ₹4,000 in private hospitals.

The Minister said that each TIFFA scanning unit costs ₹30.48 lakh, and a total of ₹2.13 crore has been spent for all seven units. The installation of these units in hospitals of North Andhra will help improve access to advanced healthcare in tribal areas, he added.
