Senior officials reviewed the progress of central and state schemes linked to the 2036 Vision and discussed ways to improve coordination for faster on-ground execution
Bhubaneswar: Odisha govt plans to unveil the final Bhubaneswar–Cuttack–Puri–Paradip Economic Region (BCPPER) plan soon, retaining the unique identity of the four cities while projecting them as a contiguous economic and urban corridor.On Monday, top officials from NITI Aayog and the Odisha govt, led by chief secretary Anu Garg, discussed various aspects of the proposed corridor, a key component of the Viksit Odisha 2036 Vision.Responding to media queries, NITI Aayog chief executive officer BVR Subramanyam said a large number of projects are lined up under the Viksit Odisha 2036–2047 Vision Document, which was released by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in June.
“There was discussion on the release of the plan for the Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Puri, Paradip Economic Region,” he added.While a draft plan was examined with NITI Aayog and key stakeholders in Sept last year, the govt now aims to unveil the final blueprint, factoring in Bhubaneswar’s role as a knowledge and IT hub, Cuttack’s judicial and historical identity, Puri’s global cultural and tourism significance and Paradip’s maritime and industrial prominence.
On Monday, it was decided to fast-track the planning and implementation of the integrated economic corridor with year-wise targets aligned with Odisha’s broader development roadmap.BCPPER is expected to play a central role in Odisha’s ambition to achieve a US$ 500-billion economy by 2036 and US$ 1.5 trillion by 2047, forming a key pillar of the Viksit Odisha vision.Senior officials reviewed the progress of central and state schemes linked to the 2036 Vision and discussed ways to improve coordination for faster on-ground execution.
The unified corridor is envisaged to transform the four-city belt into an integrated economic growth zone capable of driving long-term expansion in industry, logistics, tourism and services.The meeting also touched upon social and sustainability priorities. Strategies were discussed to strengthen the socio-economic empowerment of tribal communities while preserving traditional values.The Niti Aayog CEO said emphasis was placed on skilled workforce. Plans are being drawn up to scale up green energy adoption and long-term renewable energy strategies to ensure Odisha plays a leadership role in energy transformation.The meeting further highlighted the need for technology-driven governance, with proposed initiatives to improve maternal and child health and nutrition, particularly in interior regions.
