Five arrested, weapons seized in Nalanda

Patna: Police busted an interstate arms smuggling racket in Laheri police station area of Nalanda district during a joint operation by the arms cell and DSP Sheikh Sabir.Five people were arrested in the raid, including one accused who is wanted in a case being probed by the National Investigation Agency (NIA).

The arrested have been identified as Parwez Alam and four of his associates, all residents of Jharkhand.Police seized 153 rounds of 7.62 mm ammunition, commonly used in AK-47 rifles, along with five country-made pistols, 11 magazines, nine cellphones, Rs 24,000 in cash, and an SUV vehicle used for transporting the arms.Further investigation is underway to trace other members of the smuggling network.
