Nearly 78 years after India’s independence, some remote corners of the country are only now seeing basic infrastructure. One such village is Tumman in the Karsog subdivision of Mandi district, Himachal Pradesh, which received a Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) bus for the first time.

The historic arrival on December 31, 2025, was met with jubilation as the bus entered the village, marking a major step in connecting Tumman to the wider region.

A Warm, Festive Welcome

The joy of the locals was evident as they celebrated the arrival like a festival. A ribbon-cutting ceremony inaugurated the service, the bus was decorated with flower garlands, and sweets were distributed among the villagers.

From children to elders, everyone expressed sheer happiness, seeing it as a major step towards the village’s development.

Relief From Years-Old Challenges

Until now, residents of Tumman had to walk long distances or rely on private vehicles for essential tasks, including medical treatment, education, and government work.

The start of the bus service is expected to provide relief especially to the elderly, women, and students, saving time, reducing expenses, and making it easier to access emergency services.

Successful Trial And Plans For Regular Service

HRTC officials confirmed that a trial run on this route was completed successfully. The village lies approximately 15 kilometres from the Ani bus stand. Following final approvals, regular bus service is expected to begin soon.

This achievement follows the April 2023 introduction of bus service in Talaihan village, also in Karsog subdivision, after seven decades without public transport. The arrival of the bus in Tumman is seen as another important step in connecting rural areas to the mainstream.

Gratitude And Hopes For The Future

The villagers expressed their gratitude to the state government and HRTC, noting that the service will significantly contribute to the social and economic development of Tumman. They also expressed hope that in the future, roads, healthcare, and other basic facilities will be further expanded to improve the village’s infrastructure and quality of life.
